Sauna’s reach unbelievably high temperatures, is that even safe?
Under usual circumstances temperatures over 100 degrees would be intolerable and harmful. Yet home sauna’s often reach upwards of 170 degrees. This can be done because sauna’s control humidity. Low amounts of humidity make heat tolerable and safe because there isn’t enough water particles in the air to damage the body or sear it. In humid saunas often the temperature stays around 90-100 degrees so that there is no damage or harm caused. However, wet saunas and dry saunas often feel the same, temperature wise even though there is a large difference in actual temperature. This is due in large part to water molecules in the air. In humid saunas the water in the air makes a large difference in the temperature, so while the room may only be at 100 degrees the water itself may be at a higher temperature.
